The short answer to the question, ‘Is there a gynecomastia cure?’ is no. This doesn’t mean that the condition cannot be treated, but there are no quick fixes. Gynecomastia is one of those conditions that anyone afflicted with it wants to see disappear quickly. This need for a quick fix cure is especially important to adolescent boys with this embarrassing condition.
So what is gynecomastia? It is a condition popularly called man boobs where men develop enlarged breasts. It is most common in teenage boys and aging men due to hormonal imbalances. The condition results in tenderness and swelling which usually affect both breasts. There are however some males who are affected on just one side, but this is the exception rather than the norm.
It is quite understandable why most men are always looking for a cure for gynecomastia. Man boobs are not only unattractive, but psychologically distressing especially to teens. Young males are constantly seeking ways other than surgery to stop the growth of the breasts.
There are many ways to minimize gynecomastia, but the only almost 100 percent certainty is cosmetic surgery. While it is almost guaranteed to work, it may not do so with just one procedure. To determine which procedure to use, a doctor will need to have a number of tests done. These tests will reveal what caused the condition. They will also reveal whether or not the person actually suffers from gynecomastia or pseudogynecomastia.
Pseudogynecomastia is not true gynecomastia. This condition is not caused by hormonal, developmental or other factors but simply from excess fat. When being overweight is the reason for a man having female-like breasts, exercise and dieting is an option. It is still important to note that this is not a cure in the true sense of the word. Also, one word of warning, while losing weight may reduce the size of the breasts, surgery may be needed to firm the area.
Some persons believe that alternative medicine can do the job pretty well. Some have suggested that the natural way is to eat more vegetables that boost testosterone production. Testosterone boosting vegetables include cabbage, turnips, Brussels sprouts, cauliflower and broccoli. While increasing consumption of these types of food, stopping the use of alcohol and illegal drugs is also recommended.
There are even supplements that claim to be able to reduce man boobs quickly and easily. It would be wise to steer clear of these unless you have discussed this with a doctor.
Exercises that work the chest area can also be considered. Two chest exercises that are useful for the chest are decline pushups and the incline bench press. Instructions on doing these exercises and others can be found online. Best of all these exercises can be done at home so that expensive gym fees are not a deterrent.
Finding a treatment option for those persons with no identifiable cause for gynecomastia is more difficult. If one method or combination of methods doesn’t work, surgery is the next logical step. The bottom line is, even though you cannot technically cure gynecomastia, it can be treated successfully.
